The Stuttgart Region Economic Development Corporation (wrs.region-stuttgart.de) (WRS) was founded in 1995 as a subsidiary of the regional public body “Verband Region Stuttgart (VRS)”. The streamlined company has 50 employees, including approximately five working on projects funded by the European Commission or federal state government. Within the project‐oriented work, WRS intensively cooperates with SMEs, research institutes, municipal economic developers, chambers and other partners. The primary responsibility lies in the policy development and implementation regarding cluster facilitation and regional development. WRS’ engagement in policy development can be demonstrated by its leading role in the development of the “Strategy 2020” report, which defines the roadmap of public strategies for Stuttgart Region within the next decade. WRS is running several networks of technology oriented SMEs like automated driving, machinery, IT, etc and is in close contact to competence centers of 16 different technologies such as e.g. virtualization, logistics, mechatronics, etc. WRS has been involved into EU projects since it was founded. Experiences especially have been made in FP6/FP7, INTERREG amongst others.
