OI2LAB Santa is coming into town!
2019 is about to end very soon, and many of us are in scramble, if not panic, mode to wrap up all our current projects, to tie up loose ends, and to start reflect on this year’s achievements. But it is also the time to prepare ourselves for a period of joy and quality time together with our family and close friends. Christmas shopping, wrapping and unwrapping presents are most likely the very last urgent tasks to finalize before the Christmas day.
2019 was a very important year for the OI2LAB. We launched the platform and hosted two rounds of Open Calls (the first one in January and the second one in September) to demonstrate the capabilities of the OI2LAB for stimulating open innovation across Europe and SMEs.
Our first open call (https://oi2lab.com/news/first-opencall-winners) saw the participation of seven European SMEs that pitched their proposals for “Mobile Technologies for Rapid Event Recording and Analysis” to the North East Automotive Alliance.
This first pilot round was certainly instrumental to learn lessons about how to catch the attention of SMEs and encourage them to participate in publicly-funded Open Innovation challenges. Thanks to the analysis of the performances and to our stakeholders’ feedback, we were able to capture important learnings and action points to feed back into the second round.
In September 2019 we indeed launched the second round with an open call taking into consideration all of our previous learnings.
Last week Monday, December 2nd 2019 our call closed for submissions and…
67 SMEs want to boost their business
This time, the open call was an overwhelming success. More than 60 projects from SMEs representing over 15 EU countries were submitted before the deadline. It was the outcome we were aiming for!
At this moment, our judging panel composed of members of our consortium and outside SMEs as well (WRS; NELEP; Ideas Forward; UKRI-IUK; AVID Technology Group Ltd) started to evaluate the submitted project descriptions.
Early January, our ‘OI2Lab Santa’ is expected to deliver presents to the 36 winners of the open call.
The OI2Lab team wishes you all, SMEs, startups, entrepreneurs and our stakeholders, a great end of the year and a prosperous, innovative 2020!
